Project Details
This work will help storm harden a portion of an overhead transmission circuit that crosses the Wantagh State Parkway. This project will replace existing wood transmission poles, associated overhead transmission wire and pole-top equipment. 

• Transmission Work
  The work includes replacement of six existing wood transmission poles and the installation of new wire along Park Avenue between Merikoke Avenue South and Old Mill Road in Wantagh. Existing transmission poles are wood and extend to heights above grade ranging from approximately 43 feet to 51 feet. All existing poles will be replaced with new wood poles that will extend to approximate heights ranging from 52 feet to 61 feet. The increase in pole heights is driven by the new storm hardened configuration standard.  
• Distribution Work
  The work includes the transfer of existing distribution wire and equipment from the old poles to the new poles.

 
Project Timeline
Construction is expected to start in October 2026 and conclude by November 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Will there be tree trimming?
  Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
• Will there be any power outages?
  If a brief planned outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
• Will there be any traffic interruptions?
  There will be minimal traffic and parking disruptions along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers, and signage at the work sites, as needed.
