PSEG Long Island Celebrates Port Washington Women Business Owners for National Women's Small Business Month (October)

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Oct. 26, 2026)  With grants, rebates and bill credits, PSEG Long Island is supporting Port Washington women business owners in October, which is National Women’s Small Business Month, and throughout the year with its grants, rebates, bill credit programs and liaison services.

PSEG Long Island has provided financial incentives to several women-owned businesses in Port Washington, including two recent grants given to new businesses on Main Street: Book RePort and Royalty Pet Grooming. Book RePort, located at 40 Main St., received PSEG Long Island’s Main Street Revitalization grant, which is designed to encourage economic vitality and growth of a business district.

Royalty Pet Grooming, located at 109 Main St., opened earlier this month. Owner Rachel DeMartin received a financial grant from PSEG Long Island to offset the cost of her awning sign. Because she moved into a storefront that was empty for more than a year, her business also qualified for bill credits for her first year under PSEG Long Island’s Vacant Space program.

“PSEG Long Island is pleased to celebrate women business owners in October and throughout the year with grants, rebates and our Business First Advocates – our personal concierge service for busy business owners. Small businesses are the backbone of Long Island’s economy. They create jobs, encourage commerce and support communities. PSEG Long Island is proud to provide money and energy saving opportunities to them through our Business First program.”

“We are incredibly grateful to PSEG Long Island for this generous $25,000 Main Street Revitalization grant,” said Kathleen Schecter, Book RePort co-owner. “Owning a small independent bookstore is about so much more than selling books. It’s about being part of a community we love and creating a space where people feel welcome and connected. This support means so much to us and we are thankful that PSEG Long Island recognizes the important role small businesses play in keeping our downtowns vibrant.”

“Starting a business comes with a lot of expenses, especially when you are building out space and getting everything ready for customers,” said Rachel DeMartin, Royalty Pet Grooming owner. “This grant and the Vacant Space bill credits from PSEG Long Island are helping me with the costs associated with opening a new business and allowing me to put more resources toward other areas I may not have been able to do right away. Programs like these really help small businesses get established. I am so grateful for PSEG Long Island for supporting small businesses like ours.”

While these women-owned businesses are being highlighted in October for National Women's Small Business Month, PSEG Long Island’s Business First program is designed to help all small and medium sized businesses save money and energy. Business First includes the company’s Main Street Revitalization grants and Vacant Space Revival bill credits program, free energy assessment tools, and its helpful energy efficiency rebate program. PSEG Long Island’s Business First Advocates provide a personal concierge service for busy business owners with timesaving account services.
