Despite intermittent downpours, high heat and uncomfortable humidity, dozens of community members came out to PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island food collection on Friday, July 12, in South Setauket. They donated 2,500 pounds of food, personal care items and pet supplies, plus $1,300 in cash donations – in total, the equivalent of 4,500 meals. 

With a heat advisory in effect through Wednesday evening and strong thunderstorms possible Wednesday afternoon, PSEG Long Island has sufficient electric capacity to meet projected peak demand and is prepared for extreme weather.

PSEG Long Island has announced the student winners of its fifth annual I Am Em-Powered Energy Conservation Video Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. The event, held at the Stop & Shop located on Jericho Turnpike  in East Northport, brought out dozens of community members who opened their hearts, wallets and trunks to provide cash, food, personal care items and pet supplies to their neighbors in need. As a thank you for contributing, PSEG Long Island employee-volunteers handed out reusable shopping bags and LED lightbulbs – gifts that help preserve the environment and conserve energy.

June’s beautiful weather and plentiful celebrations, including graduations, Father’s Day and weddings, means that outdoor spaces can be crowded with drones, kites and metallic foil balloons. PSEG Long Island reminds customers that any of these objects can become entangled in overhead electric equipment and cause a host of problems. 

With tens of thousands of fans expected to pack a newly built temporary stadium in Eisenhower Park for the Cricket T20 World Cup Tournament starting June 1, PSEG Long Island announced it has prepared the electric infrastructure that serves the nearby facilities supporting the event.

The newly opened John Theissen Children’s Foundation Family Fun Center in Wantagh has received a $50,000 Main Street Revitalization grant from PSEG Long Island, along with rebates for its energy efficiency measures totaling $4,085. The grant supports the Fun Center Arcade Room for the nonprofit, which was founded in 1992 to help sick and underprivileged children across Long Island in any capacity possible.

Safety is a top priority for PSEG Long Island, and that’s why to recognize National Electric Safety Month (May), the company is sharing tips to keep customers safe from electric dangers and reminding them about its free safety education programs.

PSEG Long Island has spent the last decade preparing the utility and the electric grid for hurricanes and other extreme weather. On National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 5-11, the company announced it is also developing a proactive Climate Change Resilience Plan in partnership with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to address changes in weather patterns projected to occur over the coming decades.

In advance of Small Business Week (April 28-May 4, 2024), PSEG Long Island announces that its economic development grants and programs to help small businesses flourish will continue this year. Since the initiatives began in 2018, more than $2.8 million has been distributed to local business owners.

The program showcases how planting the right trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.

On National Lineworker Appreciation Day, PSEG Long Island salutes the in-house and contracted lineworkers dedicated to getting the lights back on and strengthening the energy grid for Long Island and the Rockaways – including Herbie Plummer, of Moriches.

In honor of Earth Day 2024, PSEG Long Island and Suffolk County, in partnership with the PSEG Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation, will provide more than 250 customers in Suffolk County with a free tree through the Energy-Saving Trees program. The program showcases how planting the right trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.

Heavy rain and significant winds up to 44 mph in some areas across the service territory have downed trees, branches and wires, currently affecting 3,741 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways. As of 8 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 6,700 customers affected by the storm since 3 PM Thursday.

After last week’s wet and windy weather, PSEG Long Island is once again prepared for a cold front and low pressure system that is forecasted to bring gusty winds, heavy rain and a few thunderstorms throughout the service area Thursday night through Friday.

As National Safe Digging Month begins, PSEG Long Island reminds customers, contractors and excavators that the law requires them to call 811 before digging to ensure underground pipelines, conduits, wires and cables are properly marked out. 

PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 93% of customers affected by the heavy rain and significant winds that downed trees, branches and wires, causing scattered power outages throughout the service area. As of 11:15 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 27,200 customers since 7 AM Wednesday.

Heavy rain and significant winds up to 60 mph in some areas across the service territory have downed trees, branches and wires, currently affecting 2,408 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways. As of 8 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 27,900 customers since 7 AM Wednesday.

PSEG Long Island is inviting anyone interested in heat pump systems to attend its inaugural heat pump technologies and solutions conference, “Electrify Long Island” on April 4. The event is free for PSEG Long Island customers. More than 400 people are expected to attend to learn how electric heat pumps, which function both as heaters and air conditioners, are a greener and more economical way to heat and cool homes.

The awards were given out earlier this month at the company’s Contractor Breakfast and Awards event, which is held annually to recognize PSEG Long Island’s energy efficiency partners for helping customers save money and energy.

PSEG Long Island employees recently donated $1,000 to Merrick-based Balloon Mission, Inc. a not-for-profit organization that collects discarded balloons in an effort to protect wildlife and the environment.
