In honor of National Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 18, PSEG Long Island is taking the time to recognize the diligent effort its field workforce puts in to keep the power on.

April is National Safe Digging Month, and PSEG Long Island reminds customers, contractors and excavators to call 811 before digging to ensure underground pipelines, conduits, wires and cables are properly marked out, no matter how small the project. It is required by law.

PSEG Long Island is celebrating Earth Day all month long by distributing free trees and handing out LED lightbulbs and reusable shopping bags at numerous locations throughout Long Island and the Rockaways.

As osprey breeding season nears, PSEG Long Island has been busy preparing by inspecting known nesting areas and cleaning out debris and garbage in the nest located near the company-installed webcam in Oyster Bay. 

PSEG Long Island is celebrating Good Samaritan Day, Friday, March 13, by recognizing the hundreds of company employees who help enhance their communities throughout the year. From January through December, PSEG Long Island’s robust Community Partnership Program connects employees with a variety of opportunities to support their neighbors where they live and work.

 PSEG Long Island is announcing its 2026 Business First financial incentive programs for business customers, which include grants of up to $125,000 and up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy efficiency rebates for EV charger installations, heating, cooling and more.

PSEG Long Island is proud to celebrate Engineers Week (Feb. 22 - 28) and the approximately 500 engineers in its workforce.

PSEG Long Island crews worked through the night in rotating 16-hour shifts to restore customers affected by Winter Storm Hernando. We expect the majority of remaining customers who experienced outages yesterday to be restored by noon today. As of 8 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored about 98% of the nearly 45,000 customers affected by the storm.  

PSEG Long Island continues to make strong progress, restoring power to more than 93% of the more than 44,000 customers affected by Winter Storm Hernando as of 9 PM. The electric system held up well amid snow accumulations that exceeded 2 feet and peak wind gusts that topped 70 mph in some locations.
 

Winter Storm Hernando delivered more than 2 feet of snow on some portions of Long Island, with peak wind gusts exceeding 70 mph in parts of Suffolk County, according to the National Weather Service. PSEG Long Island has made strong progress this afternoon as the hazardous winds subside and roadways become more passable, Of the more than 42,000 customers on Long Island and the Rockaways impacted by the storm, we have restored service to more than 32,000 since 3PM Sunday.

The major winter storm has arrived as predicted, with heavy snowfall overnight and strong, potentially hazardous winds continuing throughout much of today. The storm has downed trees, branches and wires, currently affecting 15,118 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways. As of 10 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 15,000 customers affected by the storm since 3 PM Sunday.

Peak wind gusts may reach 65 mph, with significant accumulations of wet snow expected. These conditions may down trees, branches and wires, causing outages. PSEG Long Island continues to monitor the evolving forecasts and is prepared to respond to the major winter storm expected to hit the service area Sunday through Monday.

PSEG Long Island is recognizing National Energy Assistance Day, Feb 2, 2026, by encouraging its customers to learn about available financial programs and money-saving tips – particularly relevant now with the frigid winter temperatures.

PSEG Long Island is prepared for a weather system predicted to bring heavy snowfall and extremely cold temperatures to Long Island and the Rockaways beginning late Saturday evening and potentially lasting into Monday. 

PSEG Long Island has given a $25,000 Main Street Revitalization grant under its Business First program and thousands of dollars in energy efficiency rebates to St. Francis Hospital for Animals. The veterinary hospital recently relocated to a new building on Montauk Highway in Oakdale, where it created an energy-saving space and 17 new jobs. 

PSEG Long Island is celebrating National Cut Your Energy Costs Day, observed each year on Jan. 10, by offering useful energy affordability tips to help customers manage their expenses.
