PSEG Long Island has restored power to 98.9% of customers affected by the nor’easter that downed trees, branches and wires, causing scattered power outages throughout the service area. As of 8 PM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 35,000 customers affected by the storm since 7 AM Sunday.

As the nor’easter begins to depart, PSEG Long Island continues to make strong progress, restoring power to more than 94% of customers affected by the heavy rain and significant winds that downed trees, branches and wires, causing scattered power outages throughout the service area.

The system has held up well amid heavy rain and wind gusts approaching 55 mph across the service area. The storm has downed some trees, branches and wires, currently affecting 3,716 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways.

PSEG Long Island is prepared for a nor’easter that is expected to bring rain and potentially high winds into the service area on Sunday. Peak gusts could reach up to 55 mph in some areas Sunday into Monday evening. The winds can be damaging, causing wires to come down, tree limbs to break, and outages.

During Fire Safety Month in October, PSEG Long Island will be busy educating the public at a series of events held by local fire departments. Throughout the year, the company works with the American Red Cross, fire departments, schools and community organizations to provide education about electrical safety through its programs and volunteer efforts. 

PSEG Long Island thanks generous Long Islanders and its employee-volunteers for supporting its 2025 Power to Feed Long Island food collection initiative. Over the past five years, this campaign to help community members facing food insecurity has collected the equivalent of nearly 153,000 meals.

The Long Island Power Authority Board of Trustees has awarded PSEG Long Island an extension on the existing contract to continue to operate the electric grid on Long Island and in the Rockaways for the next five years.

On Friday, Sept. 12, the day after 9/11, the National Day of Service and Remembrance, PSEG Long Island, National Grid and the General Needs organization collaborated to serve more than 100 local military veterans in a first-ever Veteran Warm Up event. 

September is National Preparedness month, and with hurricane season entering peak activity, PSEG Long Island reminds customers to prepare ahead of time for disasters and emergencies.

Last week, PSEG Long Island assisted wildlife conservation partners in returning a juvenile osprey to the Oyster Bay nest from where it had been rescued in July.

PSEG Long Island employees made a $400 donation to the Ready for Rescue animal rescue organization earlier this year. The donation, which was presented in Stony Brook at one of the organization’s foster homes, was made through PSEG Long Island’s Adelante LI employee business resource group (EBRG), which is made up of employees who promote, advocate and support Hispanic people and cultures.

PSEG Long Island’s Babette Daniels of Coram was awarded the CBIZ Workplace Challenge Individual Beneficiary Award for raising the most money as an individual fundraiser. Daniels, who raised more than $1,700 for this event, works tirelessly throughout the year encouraging her colleagues to contribute to the CBIZ Workplace Challenge and other charity events supported by PSEG Long Island. Since 2020, Daniels has used collaborative tabletop gaming sessions as a means of fundraising.

PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest Food Bank thank the people of Carle Place, Westbury, Garden City and the surrounding communities for donating more than $300 in cash and 1,600 pounds of food, personal care and pet items at PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island food collection in Carle Place on Friday, Aug. 8. 

Summer’s long days and hot temperatures are here for another few weeks, prompting all kinds of outdoor activities around the house. As customers make the most of the season, PSEG Long Island reminds everyone to keep safety at the forefront when using electricity.

Monday, Aug. 11 (8/11), is National 811 Day, and PSEG Long Island reminds anyone starting a project that involves digging to call 811 first to get a free mark-out of underground utility lines on their property. Hitting a buried electric, gas, water or cable line while digging can disrupt utility service, cost money to repair, and even cause severe injury or death. One free call to 811 will help prevent this.

With a heat advisory in effect for most of Long Island and the Rockaways through Wednesday night, PSEG Long Island is activating its voluntary Smart Savers thermostat program today, July 29, and offering energy efficiency tips to help customers lower their bills. PSEG Long Island expects to have the power required to meet customer demand during this heatwave.

As National Intern Day arrives on July 31, 2025, PSEG Long Island is celebrating its summer interns, including three students from the Babylon area. They are among 24 local college students who began 12-week paid internships at PSEG Long Island on June 2. 

PSEG Long Island employees recently took a collection and donated more than $7,000 in essential items to Ronald McDonald House in a company-wide effort to restock the nonprofit’s pantry and kitchen. Employees were provided with a wish list and purchased paper products, nonperishable food and other items requested by the not-for-profit. The initiative is one of the ways PSEG Long Island and its employees support the community.

Beginning June 13 in Massapequa, PSEG Long Island will set up collection bins at eight different Stop & Shop supermarkets on eight different Fridays through the summer. The annual collection campaign supports Island Harvest Food Bank’s mission to feed neighbors facing food insecurity.

For the 11th year, the PSEG Foundation is inviting nonprofit organizations to apply for a portion of $1.2 million in grants through its Neighborhood Partners Program (NPP). Beginning May 15 and continuing through June 30, the NPP will accept applications from eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations requesting grants of $500 to $15,000 to help close critical gaps for local communities across Long Island and in New Jersey.

In honor of Arbor Day, PSEG Long Island, in partnership with the PSEG Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation, will provide 230 customers in Nassau County with a free tree through the Energy-Saving Trees program. The program showcases how planting the right trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.

In honor of Earth Day, PSEG Long Island and Suffolk County, in partnership with the PSEG Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation, will provide more than 230 customers in Suffolk County with a free tree through the Energy-Saving Trees program. The program showcases how planting the right trees in the right location can reduce utility bills and promote ongoing system reliability.

April is National Safe Digging Month, and PSEG Long Island reminds customers, contractors and excavators that the law requires them to call 811 before digging to ensure underground pipelines, conduits, wires and cables are properly marked out. 

PSEG Long Island is inviting its business customers and other community members to attend its Business First workshop on Tuesday, April 15, in Bethpage. In partnership with the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce, the event will take place from 9 – 11 AM at the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management located at 510 Grumman Road West.
