Multiple Device Interruptions
Reliability Projects
Why Work is Happening in Your Area
PSEG Long Island regularly reviews the electric system to identify areas that may benefit from reliability improvements. In your neighborhood, we’ve seen patterns of outages or equipment-related incidents. Based on this data, your area was selected for targeted upgrades.
How We Identify Areas for Improvement
We use two key indicators:
- Patterns of Outages: This means some customers have experienced multiple outages over time. We use this information to identify opportunities to strengthen the system and help reduce future disruptions.
- Equipment-Related Incidents: This refers to protective devices – like breakers, switches, and fuses – operating more than expected. When this happens, crews inspect the area and identify any needed repairs or upgrades.
What Happens Next
Our team of engineers evaluates the findings and develops a plan to strengthen the system where it’s needed most. That’s why you’re seeing work in your area now.
What this Means for you
These upgrades are designed to:
- Reduce the frequency of outages
- Improve overall system performance
- Deliver more reliable electric service
Work Hours
Crews are scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work hours may vary based on conditions and operational needs.
Tree Trimming
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
Power Outages
Most work will not require a power outage. If a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
Traffic & Parking Impacts
There may be traffic and parking disruptions while the work is performed along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed.
Permits & Authorization
PSEG Long Island has secured all necessary approvals.
