Far Rockaway

Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class electric reliability and to hardening the system to better withstand extreme weather like heat waves and storms.

Therefore, upgrades to the system are necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity in your area and ensure greater reliability for your neighborhood. As always, customer and employee safety is our primary concern, so please be cautious when traveling near construction work zones.

  • Far Rockaway Bank Upgrade
PSEG Long Island will be upgrading electrical equipment at the Far Rockaway substation within the existing substation property lines. The project is needed to help support existing and future electrical demand in the area.
  • Far Rockaway Feeders COMPLETED
PSEG Long Island will install two new underground distribution cables and upgrade overhead distribution equipment in Far Rockaway. Underground cables will be installed to exit the Far Rockaway Substation on the northeast corner near the intersection of Enright Road and Dickens Street. Overhead wire, new wood distribution poles, and upgraded equipment will occur on Beech 22nd Street.
  • Far Rockaway Project
Over the next few months, PSEG Long Island must remove and/or replace existing distribution poles and wire, and install new distribution poles in order to accommodate sewer and water main work taking place as part of the NYC Department of Transportation’s Downtown Far Rockaway Urban Design and Street Reconstruction Project. More details about that project are available on the New York City Department of Transportation website
