Flowerfield Reliability Project

Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

Project Specifics

This project was completed in January 2021.

PSEG Long Island will upgrade the existing Flowerfield Substation to address the load growth need in your area. This work will also include the installation of a new substation exit feeder and circuit, underground cable and reconductoring overhead lines. The overhead work will include converting 4,000 feet of single phase, primary branch line to three phase, primary main line. These upgrades will ensure that you and your neighbors receive safe, reliable electric power for years to come.

Timeline

  • Late September 2019: Inside substation construction, approximately 7 months to complete
  • October 2019: Underground and overhead construction, approximately 3 months to complete

Project Route
Underground work will occur along Mills Pond Road starting at the intersection of North Country Road (25A) and run south to the intersection at Moriches Road. Along the underground portion of the project route, there will be several temporary drill pits for the installation of underground cable. This will allow us to tie the new feeder into existing overhead facilities.

Overhead reconductoring will take place along the following locations:

  • North Country Road (25A): intersections of Edgewood Avenue and Pia Boulevard
  • 2nd Street: Lake Avenue to Moriches Road
  • Moriches Road: intersection of Evon Lane to 7th Avenue
