We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

Project Overview

PSEG Long Island will be upgrading the Hempstead substation within the existing substation property lines. The new equipment will be able to handle more capacity and provide for better reliability in contingency situations. New storm hardened electrical equipment will also be installed to ensure that we can provide safe and reliable electric service to businesses and residents in the area.

Project Details

The Hempstead substation is located on Morrell Street between West Columbia Street and Webb Avenue in the Village of Hempstead.

  • What is the timeline for the project?
    Construction is expected to begin in June 2017 with an anticipated completion date in June 2019.
  • What are the work hours?
    Crews will be working Monday – Friday from approximately 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Will the project include tree trimming?
    No.
  • Will there be any power outages?
    PSEG Long Island does not anticipate any power outages related to this project.
  • Will there be any traffic interruptions?
    There may be some traffic interruptions related to this work. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flagmen and signage at the work sites, as needed, to minimize interruptions.
  • Do you have permission to do this work?
    PSEG Long Island is in the process of securing the proper local permits.
