Breezy Point Reliability Project
This project was completed in May 2020.
PSEG Long Island will be upgrading the electric distribution infrastructure to improve reliability in Breezy Point. The upgraded overhead primary wires and poles, along with new underground cable, will help ensure that we can provide safe and reliable electric service to businesses and residents in the area.
Crews working on the infrastructure will:
- Replace 46 poles that range from approximately 29-34 feet in height above grade with new and more durable poles that are approximately 34-39 feet in height above grade.
- Install two new poles that are approximately 34 feet in height above grade.
- Replace approximately 14,600 feet of overhead primary wire with a stronger, more resilient wire.
- Install new switches in various locations to improve reliability.
- Install a new underground cable within a duct and manhole system.
Crews will begin work in March and are expected to finish in May.
Crews will be improving reliability along the following streets:
- Rockaway Point Boulevard between Beach 193rd St and Beach 201st Street
- Market Street at the corner of Beach 202nd Street
- West Market Street between Beach 204th Street and Beach 209th Street
- Ocean Avenue between Rockaway Point Boulevard and Oceanside Avenue
- 8th Avenue between Beach 208th Street and Ocean Avenue
- Oceanside Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Rockaway Point Boulevard
- Breezy Point Boulevard between Olive Walk and Beach 219th Street
- Beach 219th Street between Breezy Point Boulevard and Rockaway Point Boulevard
- Beach 218th Street between Rockaway Point Boulevard and 12th Avenue
- Pelham Walk between Oceanside Avenue and Breezy Point Boulevard
Crews will remove the overhead primary wires from the pole line running through the rear property of homes on Ocean Avenue, between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue, and place the wires underground within a duct and manhole system that will run on Ocean Avenue between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue.
The utility poles will remain and still carry other utility wires.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the work hours?
Crews will be working Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. If work is required to be performed on Saturdays, crews will work between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Will there be tree trimming?
Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
- Will there be any power outages?
In the event that a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
- Will there be any traffic interruptions?
There may be traffic and parking disruptions while the work is performed along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed.
