Press Release

PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Saturday, Feb. 21, 5 PM

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Feb. 21, 2026) PSEG Long Island continues to monitor the evolving forecasts and is prepared to respond to the major winter storm expected to hit the service area Sunday through Monday.

  • Peak wind gusts may reach 65 mph, with significant accumulations of wet snow expected. These conditions may down trees, branches and wires, causing outages.
  • PSEG Long Island employees are ready to support the restoration efforts, including more than 600 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel.
  • In addition, approximately 260 mutual aid personnel have been secured to help address outages.
  • For safety reasons, field crews at times may be unable to make repairs during periods of high winds. When the winds subside to safe levels, we will immediately focus on customer restoration.
  • Due to the multi-hour period of sustained high winds in the forecast, as well as the travel and rear-property access challenges associated with the snow, some outages may extend beyond 24 hours.
  • Crews will work safely and as quickly as possible, in 16-hour shifts, until all outages are restored.
  • Information about PSEG Long Island’s restoration process is available at psegliny.com/Outages/StormPrepandRestoration/RestorationProcess.
  • PSEG Long Island encourages customers to take the time now to prepare (psegliny.com/safetyandreliability/stormsafety) ahead of a weather event – including knowing how to report an outage and how to stay safe and connected to PSEG Long Island during winter weather.

Customer Safety:

  • Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
  • Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
  • Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
  • Visit psegliny.com/safetyandreliability/stormsafety for additional information on safety during storms.
