NYS Electric and Gas Bill Relief Program

You may be eligible to receive a bill credit

Recognizing that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused financial hardship for many households, the Long Island Power Authority approved bill relief in January 2023 for customers with a past-due balance for service through May 1, 2022.

Only customers who did not receive a bill-relief credit in 2022 are eligible for a bill-relief credit in 2023.

  • Residential customers are eligible to have any past-due balance from bills for service through May 1, 2022, reduced through a bill credit of up to $2,000.
  • Small business customers are eligible to have any past-due balance from bills for service through May 1, 2022, reduced through a bill credit of up to $2,884.

Important Information

  • If you were enrolled in a utility’s bill discount program or Energy Affordability Program by December 31, 2022, or have received benefits under New York State’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) or the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Regular Arrears Supplement (RAS) in the prior heating season and previously received a bill relief credit, you will not receive an additional credit in 2023.
  • All customers are responsible for any remaining balances not covered by the bill credit, including bills for services after May 1, 2022.

Additional Discounts
Customers may also be eligible for a discount on every electric bill if receiving benefits from HEAP or other programs including Medicaid, Temporary Assistance and SNAP. To learn more, send an email to consumeradvocacyLI@pseg.com.
