PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Monday, Sept. 28, 11:30 AM
(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 28, 2026) As of 11:15 AM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to approximately 96% of customers affected by the gusty winds and heavy rain that brought down trees and heavy branches on wires, causing scattered power outages throughout PSEG Long Island’s service territory.
- Currently, 4,767 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are without power.
- Over the course of 72 hours, the storm caused more than 125,000 outages, the vast majority of which are expected to be restored by the end of today.
- Most of the current outages are in Suffolk County.
- Additional outages continued to come in overnight as more wind and rain affected Long Island and the Rockaways.
- The storm damage was extensive. More than 1,230 trees and nearly 750 large branches fell.
- More than 1,350 local and off-Island field workers are supporting the restoration.
- Crews will continue to work safely to restore power as quickly as possible, in 16-hour shifts, until all outages are restored.
- As electric service crews continue to assess damage, PSEG Long Island customers who are currently without power will continue to receive targeted communications about their estimated restoration times.
- PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without electricity for any length of time is a hardship and appreciate customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore power in continued challenging conditions.

Customer Safety:
- Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
- Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
- Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
