Press Release

PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Monday, Sept. 28, 9:30 PM

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 28, 2026) As of 9:15 PM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 99% of customers affected by the storm that brought down trees and heavy branches on wires, causing scattered power outages throughout PSEG Long Island’s service area. Any remaining customers out from the storm will be restored tonight.

  • Currently, 676 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are without power, many from today. The total number of outages indicated on PSEG Long Island’s MyPower map will fluctuate as new outages from today are included.
  • Since Friday morning, the driving rain and gusty winds of the multi-day storm has caused more than 128,000 outages. Some of these outages occurred today.
  • Crews will continue to work safely in 16-hour shifts until power is restored to every customer affected by the storm.
  • The storm damage was extensive, with more than 2,000 fallen trees and branches that affected electric service.
  • We thank our customers for their understanding during and after this multi-day coastal storm.

Customer Safety:

  • Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
  • Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
  • Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
  • Visit psegliny.com/safetyandreliability/stormsafety for additional information on safety during storms.
