Ocean Beach Conversion and Reinforcement

Reliability Projects

We're making upgrades to enhance our system's ability to withstand extreme weather and meet energy demands.

PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class electric reliability by hardening the electric system to better withstand extreme weather like heat waves and storms. The upgrades we are working on are necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity on Fire Island. Over the coming months, you will see crews working in your area strengthening the system.

Project Specifics
PSEG Long Island will upgrade the electrical infrastructure on Fire Island by reconductoring 12,900 feet of existing overhead wires between Point O’ Woods and Fire Island Pines. Additionally, 35 existing wood distribution poles will be replaced with similar sized, storm-hardened wood distribution poles and 6,300 feet of open-wire will be upgraded to triplex wire. These upgrades will ensure that you and your neighbors receive safe, reliable electric power for years to come.
