Circuit Reliability Upgrades to Begin in Huntington, Northport, Greenlawn

(Uniondale, NY – March 22, 2019) — PSEG Long Island is beginning more circuit reliability projects in the Town of Huntington, specifically in Huntington, Northport and Greenlawn, to improve the reliability of the energy grid in the area.

Beginning in March and lasting approximately seven months, PSEG Long Island-licensed and approved contractors will work on these routes, replacing existing electrical wires, installing new and more durable poles and installing or replacing switching equipment. These infrastructure upgrades will help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage.

“Outstanding electric reliability is one of PSEG Long Island’s top priorities,” said John O’Connell, PSEG Long Island vice president of Transmission and Distribution Operations. “These infrastructure improvement projects in Huntington, Northport and Greenlawn are among hundreds of FEMA-funded upgrades we have been making at no additional cost to our customers.”


The first route covers 6 miles along an electric main line circuit in the Town of Huntington and the Village of Northport. Crews will work on the following streets:

  • Pulaski Road between Elwood Road and Stony Hollow Road
  • Stony Hollow Road between Patrician Drive and Fort Salonga Road
  • Wells Road between Stony Hollow Road and Taylor Avenue
  • Taylor Avenue between Oakwood Street and Fenwick Street
  • Sandy Hollow Road between Stony Hollow Road and Laurel Hill Road
  • Laurel Hill Road between Sandy Hollow Road and Daphne Lane
  • Daphne Lane between Laurel Hill Road and Sandy Hollow Road
  • Sandy Hollow Road between Daphne Lane and Fort Salonga Road
  • Fort Salonga Road between Elwood Road and west of Stony Hollow Road
  • Woodbine Avenue between Fort Salonga Road and Main Street
  • Bayview Avenue between Main Street and Lewis Road Lewis Road between Bayview Avenue and Ocean Avenue

 

The second route covers approximately 2 miles along an electric main line circuit in the Town of Huntington. Crews will work on the following streets:

  • Whitson Road between Park Avenue and Lenox Road
  • Lenox Road between East Eleventh Street and Brompton Place
  • East Seventeenth Street between Depot Rd and Oak Avenue
  • Depot Road between West Park Drive and Melville Road
  • Melville Road between Depot Road and East Jericho Turnpike
  • Pidgeon Hill Road between East Jericho Turnpike and Birchwood Drive
  • Thompson Place between Depot Road and Frog Pond Road
  • Maplewood Road between Depot Road and Lenox Road

 

The third route covers approximately 1.5 miles along an electric main line circuit in Greenlawn and Huntington. Crews will work on the following streets:

  • Lake Road between East Pulaski Road and Trafalgar Court
  • Pulaski Road between Butterfield Drive and Broadway Greenlawn
  • Central Street between Cuba Hill Road and Broadway Greenlawn
  • Cuba Hill Road between Pulaski Road and Central Street
  • Broadway Greenlawn between Central Street and Rockne Street
  • Cuba Hill Road between Broadway Greenlawn and Clay Pitts Road
  • Clay Pitts Road between Cuba Hill Road and Poet Lane

This project is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program, which was established to harden electrical distribution infrastructure against future storm damage and help restore power more quickly. In 2014, more than $729 million of federal recovery funds were secured for the Long Island Power Authority via an agreement between Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the FEMA, under the FEMA 406 Mitigation Program.
