Press Release
PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Monday, Sept. 28, 4:30 PM
(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 28, 2026) As of 4 PM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 97% of customers affected by the gusty winds and heavy rain that brought down trees and heavy branches on wires, causing scattered power outages throughout PSEG Long Island’s service territory.
- Currently, 3,145 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are without power. The total number of outages indicated on PSEG Long Island’s MyPower map will fluctuate as new outages from today are included.
- Crews will continue to work safely in 16-hour shifts until power is restored to every customer affected by the storm.
- PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without electricity for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews continue to work in challenging conditions to restore their power.
- Since Friday morning, the three-day storm has caused more than 128,000 outages, the vast majority of which have been restored or are expected to be restored by the end of today.
- Additional outages occurred overnight, with most of the current outages now located throughout Suffolk County and in Great Neck and Locust Valley in Nassau County.
- The storm damage was extensive, with more than 2,000 fallen trees and branches that affected electric service.
- PSEG Long Island customers who are currently without power will continue to receive targeted communications about their estimated restoration times.

Customer Safety:
- Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
- Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
- Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
