PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Sunday, Sept. 27, 5 PM

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 27, 2026) PSEG Long Island has more than 1,350 personnel restoring power to customers affected by the coastal storm. 

• Heavy rain and strong wind gusts have downed trees, large limbs, wires and poles, causing more than 117,000 outages across Long Island and the Rockaways.
• As of 5 PM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to nearly 104,000 customers affected by the storm since 7 AM Friday.
• Currently, 13,637 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are without power.
• Customers who are currently experiencing an outage will continue to receive targeted communications from PSEG Long Island about their restoration.

• Crews will continue to work 16-hour shifts safely and as quickly as possible until all outages are restored.
• The severe weather has brought down more than 1,150 trees and 580 large branches, which have taken down utility poles and electric wires.
• All PSEG Long Island employees have mobilized to support the restoration efforts, including more than 850 lineworkers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel.
• More than 500 off-Island workers are assisting with the restoration efforts until the end of the storm. 
• Outages are scattered across the service area, with the hardest hit areas currently in Suffolk County and in Great Neck.
• Peak wind gusts in some areas have been more than 70 mph.
• Additional outages are expected as the windy and rainy weather continues.
• To ensure the safety of personnel in bucket trucks, strong winds may temporarily slow restoration efforts.
• As electric service crews continue to assess damage, estimated times of restoration (ETRs) will be provided and refined.

• PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.

Customer Safety:

• Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
• Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
• Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
