Press Release
PSEG Long Island Storm Update — Saturday, Sept. 26, 1 PM
(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 26, 2026) PSEG Long Island is making strong progress restoring customers affected by the significant coastal storm that continues to bring heavy rain and peak wind gusts of up to 55 mph across parts of the service area. The storm has downed trees, branches and wires, currently affecting 13,337 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways.
- As of 1 PM, PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 34,600 customers affected by the storm since 7 AM Friday.
- Outages are scattered across the service area, with the hardest hit areas including Huntington Station, Setauket, Bay Shore, Northport and Southampton.
- All PSEG Long Island employees have mobilized to support the restoration efforts, including more than 850 lineworkers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel.
- Today, more than 250 additional off-Island workers are joining us for the duration of the storm.
- Crews have been working in challenging conditions throughout the storm event. With continued winds and rain in the forecast, additional outages are expected and PSEG Long Island personnel are on hand to respond and restore them safely and as quickly as possible.
- To ensure the safety of personnel in bucket trucks, strong winds may temporarily slow restoration efforts.
- Electric service crews are working to assess damage. As this assessment continues and more information is available, estimated times of restoration (ETRs) will be provided and refined.
- Information about PSEG Long Island’s restoration process is available at psegliny.com/Outages/StormPrepandRestoration/RestorationProcess.
- PSEG Long Island recognizes that being without power for any length of time is a hardship and appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as crews work to restore electric service.
Customer Safety:
- Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
- Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
- Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
