PSEG Long Island Offers Steep Rebates to Save Its Customers Money this Summer

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – June 17, 2020) As many people are opting to vacation at home rather than traveling this year, many are sprucing up their homes’ outdoor spaces to give them a vacation-like oasis to relax in. PSEG Long Island is offering rebates of up to $650 on equipment to make customers’ backyard staycations more enjoyable this summer.

Energy efficient pool heaters and pumps, lawnmowers and lawn equipment can save customers money on their electric bills while reducing their carbon footprint.

If you need a new pump and heater for your pool, now is the time to get one -- rebates of up to $650 for the most energy efficient models will make a splash in your wallet while helping the environment. A pool pump can be a home’s second largest energy user. However, an ENERGY STAR®-certified model uses up to 65% less energy. The addition of an energy efficient heat pump pool heater will maximize the savings, which run between $150-650 in savings depending which model is chosen.

The company is also offering rebates of $25 to $50 on ENERGY STAR-certified lawn equipment. Purchasing a chargeable lawnmower, blower, or trimmer can cut a homeowner’s spending. In addition, electric tools are not as messy or noisy as traditional gas equipment, and they require less maintenance.

PSEG Long Island’s commitment to helping lower customers’ energy usage through energy efficient products and its home performance programs has earned the company the 2020 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for the second year in a row.

Each year, the federal Environmental Protection Agency, which administers the ENERGY STAR program, and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognize ENERGY STAR partner businesses and organizations that demonstrate superior leadership, innovation, and commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR.

“Last year PSEG Long Island promoted ENERGY STAR-certified products through rebates and its Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) programs,” said Michael Voltz, PSEG Long Island director of Energy Efficiency. “By endorsing certified lighting, dehumidifiers, clothes washers and dryers, variable speed pool pumps and other products, we have been able to reap about 150,000 mega-watt hours (MWh) in energy savings for our customers. This has made a significant impact in reducing overall electric demand on Long Island and in the Rockaways.”
“I salute the 2020 ENERGY STAR award winners,” said Anne Idsal, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. “These leaders demonstrate how energy efficiency drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental protection.”

Independent annual evaluations by Opinion Dynamics Corporation have found PSEG Long Island’s energy efficiency and renewable energy programs generate energy savings that are cost-effective. In its evaluation for 2019, Opinion Dynamics found that the PSEG Long Island Energy Efficiency Program generated $2.00 in benefits to the utility and its customers for every $1 in costs to operate the program, including rebates.
