PSEG Long Island, Local 1049 Reach Agreement on Contract
(Uniondale, NY – Oct. 16, 2019) — PSEG Long Island announced today it reached an agreement on a contract ratification with its labor union, Local 1049 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, one of the largest private sector labor unions on Long Island.
“This contract agreement provides my membership with job security and fair wage increases, while maintaining our pension and medical benefits,” said Ron Bauer, business manager for Local 1049 of the IBEW. “Resolving this labor contract helps us provide Long Island electric customers with a dedicated and reliable workforce who take pride in delivering excellent service.”
“The agreement provides continued stability and strengthens the partnership between the company, its employees and IBEW Local 1049,” said Daniel Eichhorn, president and chief operating officer of PSEG Long Island. “We value our partnership with Local 1049 and look forward to working with them to continue PSEG Long Island’s commitment of delivering outstanding service to our customers.”
The proposed four-year agreement, which was subject to a ratification vote by IBEW Local 1049 membership on Oct. 15, covers more than 1,500 PSEG Long Island bargaining unit employees who operate and support the Long Island transmission and distribution system. The agreement enables PSEG Long Island to control costs and continue to offer a market-competitive compensation and benefits package. Key elements of the contract include an annual wage increase over four years, changes to active employee medical plans, and the introduction of a well-being program with incentives.
The agreement replaces a contract that would have expired on Nov. 13, 2019, and will run through Nov. 13, 2023.
