Generous Long Islanders Donate Nearly 153,000 Meals in Five Years to PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island
September is Hunger Action Month
(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Sept. 30, 2025) PSEG Long Island thanks generous Long Islanders and its employee-volunteers for supporting its 2025 Power to Feed Long Island food collection initiative. Over the past five years, this campaign to help community members facing food insecurity has collected the equivalent of nearly 153,000 meals.
This year, over the summer months, PSEG Long Island invited community members to make donations at eight Stop & Shop locations throughout Long Island. More than 14,000 pounds of food and nearly $7,000 in cash – the equivalent of 25,800 meals – was collected at the events. Island Harvest Food Bank distributed the food back to the communities to supply neighborhood food pantries, soup kitchens and local feeding programs.
“In the past five years, we have been so moved to see the amazing outpouring of kindness from Long Islanders in support of PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island food collection initiative. This year we had a little boy donate his favorite foods after shopping with his dad. Another donor gave $100 online while standing at our tent. A group of PSEG Long Island employees set up a collection box in the office and made a significant donation. More than 50 PSEG Long Island employees volunteered at the events. I am so proud of my neighbors and coworkers for their philanthropy to this cause. Along with providing safe and reliable power, this is just another way PSEG Long Island supports our community during the year.”

“In light of proposed federal cutbacks, support from our longtime partner PSEG Long Island is more important than ever,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank. “While many Long Island families struggle to put food on the table, the incredible support of PSEG Long Island and Stop & Shop, along with the generosity of their customers who helped make this year’s Power to Feed Long Island a tremendous success, will go a long way in helping our neighbors in need.”
“We were honored to once again host the Power to Feed Long Island food drive at our stores in partnership with PSEG Long Island and in support of Island Harvest Food Bank,” said Daniel Wolk, external communications manager at Stop & Shop. “We are deeply grateful to our customers for their generosity and support. Because of them, nearly 26,000 meals will be distributed to help our Long Island neighbors facing food insecurity.”
Power to Feed Long Island was created by PSEG Long Island in 2021 during the pandemic to raise awareness about the issue of food insecurity and to provide the public with venues where they live and work to donate food, personal care items and pet food to their neighbors. The summertime events have continued for the past five years because the need continues to be great, especially during these months when vacations cause a decrease in donors, collection drives are not as prevalent, and children on school breaks are not receiving daily free or reduced-cost breakfast and lunch. In addition, inflation and the rising cost of food puts a heavier burden on families.
This year, Power to Feed Long Island food collection events were held in Carle Place, East Northport, Levittown, Massapequa, Miller Place, Oceanside, West Babylon and Woodbury. PSEG Long Island provided shoppers with reusable bags and those who contributed were given free LED lightbulbs as a thank you for donating. Representatives from PSEG Long Island were on hand at each location to provide information on its financial programs and money-saving energy efficiency options.
The online donation site will remain open. For additional information on Power to Feed Long Island or to make an online monetary donation, visit psegliny.com/feedli. Island Harvest estimates that every five dollars donated is the equivalent of 10 meals.
