In order to mitigate exposure and spread of COVID-19 and be in compliance with the New York State executive order, we have made some temporary changes to our in-home audit programs. PSEG Long Island is doing its part to help slow and prevent the spread of COVID-19 to all its valued customers and business partners. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this period. At this time in-home audit programs are operating with a temporary blower door suspension.

What is a Home Energy Assessment?

A comprehensive home assessment is the first step towards improving a home's efficiency and reducing energy bills. During the assessment, your home will be evaluated for:

  • Heating and cooling equipment efficiency
  • Air infiltration and ventilation
  • Carbon monoxide levels and/or moisture problems
  • Insulation levels, air leaks, and drafts
  • Heating and hot water system efficiency
  • Central air conditioning efficiency (if applicable), and
  • Distribution system/ductwork (if applicable).

A contractor accredited by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) will test your home for air leakage. He or she will look for opportunities to improve your home's insulation, heating and cooling system, windows, appliances, and lighting, and then explain what improvements can be made. Each participating contractor has earned certification through BPI, a national resource for building science technology, that sets standards for assessing and improving the energy performance of homes. BPI-accredited Home Performance Contractors use the most advanced state-of-the-art equipment to test the home and identify energy efficiency improvements.
