PSEG Long Island Wins Top ENERGY STAR Award for Commitment to Fighting Climate Change

As Earth Day nears, company encourages its customers to utilize rebates for energy-saving upgrades

(UNIONDALE, N.Y. – April 19, 2021) – As the world gears up to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, PSEG Long Island was honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for its commitment to fighting climate change through energy efficiency.

PSEG Long Island received the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, the highest honor bestowed by the ENERGY STAR program. Winners are part of a distinguished group that has made a long-term commitment to fighting climate change and protecting public health through energy efficiency. It was the third year in a row that PSEG Long Island has received an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award.

Since 2014, PSEG Long Island has provided more than $510 million in rebates to customers purchasing energy-efficient appliances, lighting fixtures and other home and commercial equipment, saving approximately 1.9 million MWh of energy. This is equivalent to removing more than 290,000 cars off the road each year or the electric use of more than 193,800 homes yearly.

“On Earth Day, we think about what we can do to help protect the planet, and using less energy in our homes and businesses is a great way to put those thoughts into action,” said Michael Voltz, PSEG Long Island’s director of Energy Efficiency. “We are honored to receive this award for the third straight year. When our customers buy ENERGY STAR-certified lighting, dehumidifiers, clothes washers and dryers, variable speed pool pumps and other products, they get a rebate, they lower their energy consumption, and they help reduce overall electric demand on Long Island and in the Rockaways.”

“ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promotes job growth,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “Many of them have been doing it for years, inspiring all of us who are committed to tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy.”

As spring gives way to summer, PSEG Long Island is offering rebates of up to $600 on equipment to make customers’ backyard staycations more enjoyable.

Energy efficient pool heaters and pumps, lawnmowers and lawn equipment can help reduce customers’ carbon footprint and, in some cases, lower energy bills.

For customers who need a new pool pump and heater, now is the time to get one — rebates of up to $600 for heat-pump pool heaters and up to $325 for variable speed pool pumps will help the cost barely make a splash in their wallets while helping the environment. A pool pump can be a home’s second largest energy user. However, an ENERGY STAR-certified model uses up to 65% less energy. The addition of an energy efficient heat pump pool heater will maximize the savings.

The company is also offering rebates of $20 to $40 on ENERGY STAR-certified lawn equipment. Purchasing a chargeable lawn mower, blower or trimmer can cut a homeowner’s spending. In addition, electric tools are not as messy or noisy as traditional gas equipment, and require less maintenance.
