Working from Home: How to Save on TOD

Save Energy at Home

More of us are working from home than ever before. That’s why it’s important to be mindful of how to save with Time-of-Day.
  • Let the Sunshine In
Open blinds and curtains instead of turning on lights and lamps around your workspace. In winter, it can also help keep you warm.
  • Schedule Chores
If you plan to do a quick load of laundry or run the dishwasher in between meetings or deadlines, time it before 3 p.m. on weekdays to avoid Peak hours.
  • Energy Vampires
Many devices continue to draw power even when they’re turned off. Unplug your printer and appliances when not in use, especially during Peak times from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Or use an advanced power strip (see below).
  • Computers and Laptops
Using your computer’s sleep mode (not the screen saver) or power management features can save you money. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends turning it off when not in use for more than two hours.
  • Switch to an Advanced Power Strip
Plug your computer, printer/scanner, phone charger, monitor, modem, router and other electronics into an advanced power strip. These devices help control and save power for devices that are not in use.
  • Energy-Saving Equipment
If you are considering trading-in or buying new office equipment like a laptop, desktop computer, monitor or a printer, consider purchasing ENERGY STAR® certified devices.
