Outage Management System
Our storm-tested Outage Management System allows us to keep you better informed with more accurate and real-time power outage information.
We invested $500 million on improvements throughout the electric system in 2016 alone. Across our entire area, we’re raising critical equipment at our low-lying substations to reduce the risk of flooding and power outages. We’re also scanning our power lines, as today’s infrared technology allows us to proactively identify any equipment that appears to be overheating, so we can address the problem before an outage occurs. For the past two years we have scanned 100% of our mainline distribution lines and 100% of our transmission lines.
We’re continuing to make investments in reliability - so you can count on our power all year long. In fact, this year, we’ll invest more than $400 million in reliability programs. When there is an outage, the average time to restore power is less than 70 minutes.
We’ve also improved our power restoration communications system to help our crews respond faster and make it easier for you to get the information you need.
Upgrades throughout the electric system include new technology that limits the number of outages when damage occurs. We can't prevent every outage, so our new, storm-tested computer systems allow us to respond faster when outages happen.
