Thousands of Dollars in Savings Is in the Books for Huntington Library

Facility receives more than $66,000 in rebates from PSEG Long Island for going greener

(Uniondale, NY – June 12, 2019) — PSEG Long Island recently presented a “big check” for $66,126 to Huntington Public Library for participating in the PSEG Long Island Commercial Efficiency Program. The big check represents more than $61,000 in energy efficiency rebates for replacing fluorescent fixtures and incandescent light bulbs with more energy-efficient LEDs, and nearly $5,000 for upgrades to its heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.

“With these upgrades, Huntington Library is saving money with an eye toward the future by reducing its kilowatt-hour usage,” said Michael Voltz, director of energy efficiency and renewables, PSEG Long Island. “We congratulate and thank the board for reducing its carbon footprint and saving energy — doing its part to provide a safer, cleaner and greener environment for its community.”

With lighting accounting for the largest portion of energy used in commercial buildings — typically around 25-30 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Energy — it is estimated Huntington Library will save more than 175,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) and $31,500 a year on its electric bill through these improvements.

“The Library Board of Trustees and Administration express their gratitude on behalf of the taxpaying community for the generous rebate program PSEG Long Island offers to facilities like ours to make these types of energy saving conversions more cost effective for tight budgets,” said Joanne Adam, library director.

Independent annual evaluations by Opinion Dynamics Corporation have found PSEG Long Island’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Programs generate energy savings that are cost-effective. In 2017, Opinion Dynamics found that the PSEG Long Island Energy Efficiency Program generated $1.90 in benefits to the utility and its customers for every $1.00 in costs to operate the program, including rebates.
