Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Online Home Energy Analyzer available to all residential customers?
Yes! We’d like to help every customer save energy and money.
- Can I use the Online Home Energy Analyzer more than once?
We encourage it. Start by completing the survey with the “as-is” information about your home. Then try “what-if” scenarios, like if you were to implement recommendations from your report. You’ll get to see the estimated impact on your bills.
- What’s the difference between the two ways to start the analyzer?
You can start the analyzer as a “guest” or by first logging in with your My Account registration. By logging in first, basic information about your home will be pre-filled and the information from the analyzer will update your Home Profile used in our MyEnergy suite of online energy management tools. As a guest, there’s no pre-filled information and your Home Profile will not be updated.
- How does the Online Home Energy Analyzer calculate my results?
The simple answer: hard science. The analyzer uses a physics-based home energy simulation model that accounts for home construction materials, the number and types of equipment and appliances, the household’s unique energy use patterns and weather conditions. This model uses continually updated data to validate how each home uses energy and how energy usage and costs will change when different savings actions are taken.
- Why do the analyzer results seem to differ from my bills?
Even with a fairly in-depth survey like the Online Home Energy Analyzer, it’s not always possible to account for all of the energy habits in a particular household, like how often things are turned on and off, or electronics not captured in the survey.
