PSEG Long Island is committed to delivering best-in-class electric reliability to you and to hardening the system to better withstand extreme weather like heat waves and storms like Superstorm Sandy. The upgrades we’re working on are necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity in your area and will ensure greater reliability for you and your neighbors.  

Project Specifics

This project was completed in March 2021.

The project will upgrade approximately 2,600 feet of overhead primary wires and replace poles to help ensure that we can provide safe and reliable electric service to businesses and residents in the area.

Crews working on the infrastructure will:

• Upgrade equipment to improve reliability
• Replace 11 wood poles with wood poles of similar height (ranging between 35 and 45 feet)
• Replace 3 wood transmission poles of similar height (approximately 90 feet)
• Replace overhead primary wire with a stronger, more resilient wire

 
Project Route
Crews will replace poles and equipment along the following streets:

• Lakeville Road between 77th Avenue and 78th Avenue
• Stewart Avenue between 78th Avenue and 81st Avenue

 
Project Timeline
Crews will begin work in July and be completed late fall.

• What are the work hours?
  Crews are expected to work Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m for work during the summer. Crews are expected to work Friday through Sunday 9:00 p.m to 5 a.m. for work during the fall.
• Will there be tree trimming?
  Trees growing near power lines significantly increase the chance of power outages and pose safety risks. As we expand and improve our electric circuits, we will trim trees, where necessary, following our utility best practice model (ANSI A300 standards as well as the Best Management Practices Tree Pruning publication): 8 feet to each side; 12 feet above; and 10 feet below the line.
• Will there be any power outages?
  In the event that a brief outage is required, all affected customers will be notified in advance.
• Will there be any traffic interruptions?
  There may be traffic and parking disruptions while the work is performed along the project route. To ensure traffic moves safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the work sites, as needed. Local officials will be notified in advance regarding any traffic concerns.
